You'll Miss Fewer Days of Work with Chiropractic Care

Tenino Worker Injury Treatment and RecoveryWhen you're trying to support your family, take care of your household, and pay all of your bills on time, every day at work counts. Work injuries can be a huge problem for many people, and we see many of these types of injuries in our Tenino office. Mr. Kenney appreciates your situation and is here to help.

The benefits of chiropractic for work injuries are well-documented. A 2013 survey involving 651 adults who were troubled with either back or neck pain found that the individuals who didn't see a chiropractor missed work at twice the rate of those who were seeing a chiropractor.

So, why don't more people use Chiropractic?

According to the participants in this report, two of the major factors were that they thought they needed a medical referral for chiropractic care (which is typically no longer true) and they overestimated the costs associated with chiropractic treatment sessions by almost 70 percent.

The truth is, chiropractic patients actually spend less on care than medical patients, plus they are less likely to use drugs for their symptoms.

Chiropractic Can Ease Jaw Pain Related to TMJ

Tenino TMJ pain recoveryAs trauma to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is frequently rather painful, we do our best to help our Tenino patients find relief as quickly and effectively as possible. In fact, Mr. Kenney will tell you that the research shows just how much chiropractic care can help ease discomfort in the TMJ.

Research Supports Chiropractic Helps With TMJ Pain and Discomfort

For example, one study published in Physiotherapy Theory and Practice included 15 patients with TMJ pain who were managed with neck adjustments, middle-back adjustments, and trigger point therapy via dry needling. Patients were evaluated prior to these treatments and at 15 days and two months post-treatment. They reported positive results such as reduced pain, greater jaw movement, and lower disability at both follow-ups.

Another group of researchers conducted an analysis of almost 800 studies involving manual and manipulative therapy for disorders such as TMJ and found similar findings. The authors concluded that there is a "fair...level of evidence" that chiropractic care can help ease symptoms associated with TMJ and other upper extremity disorders.

This is great news since the causes of TMJ are largely unknown. While trauma to the jaw or neck can cause pain symptoms, there are other sources to consider as well, such as bruxism, arthritis, and clenching of the jaw due to tension.

Research Shows Chiropractic Adjustments Beneficial at Preventing Sports Injuries

Tenino sports injury treatment and chiropracticWe see a large number of sports injuries in our Tenino office, and Mr. Kenney is often able to help these athletes. Stanford Children’s Hospital reports that over 3.5 million children of the ages 14 and below are injured each year when playing sports. Add that to the nearly 2 million adults injured each year while taking part in sports-related activities, as reported by statistics collected by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, and you can begin to see the necessity of minimizing these types of widespread injuries. One way to potentially realize that goal, as stated in a study published in BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, is to engage in routine chiropractic treatments.

In Australian Rules football, hamstring and other leg traumas are common, often sidelining the players and impacting their team's likelihood of securing a win. One particular study was administered using 59 semi-elite Australian Rules footballers to see whether chiropractic could diminish these injuries and help keep them in the game.

Research Shows Chiropractic Helps in Treating Sports Injuries

For this study particularly, all of the players got medical treatment. In addition, half of them also engaged in chiropractic sessions at the rate of 1 session per week for the first six weeks, biweekly treatments for the following three months, and one treatment each month for the final 3 months of the study. The other participants had no chiropractic intervention whatsoever and were used as the control group to assess the benefits of chiropractic adjustments.

After twenty-four matches, scientists noted a reduced amount of lower limb muscle strains in the group that had received chiropractic care. Moreover, that very group also missed fewer matches connected to non-contact knee injuries. This lead the researchers to conclude that chiropractic should be added to sports training programs to effectively lessen the amount of leg injuries.

Chiropractic Helps Shoulder Pain

Tenino shoulder pain treatment and recoveryAccording to research, approximately 2-5 percent of the population will suffer from painful ailments like frozen shoulder syndrome at some time in their lives. That makes shoulder-related pain a common problem and one that Mr. Kenney sees in our Tenino practice on a regular basis.

Research Proves Chiropractic Helps With Shoulder Pain

In general, this condition is more common for people in their 40s, 50s, and 60s, and it tends to affect women more frequently than men. While ice, heat, and gentle stretching can sometimes help alleviate the discomfort, so too can chiropractic care.

For instance, a study released in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine looked at 50 people with frozen shoulder who received chiropractic care. The length of care ranged from 11 days to 51 days, with 28 days being the average.

The researchers found that nearly all of the study participants fared extremely well with chiropractic care. Here are the results:

8 of the subjects reported 50-75 percent improvement
25 indicated improvement ranging from 75- 90 percent
1 participant had complete resolution of their frozen shoulder pain

Only one of the original 50 reported an improvement of 50 percent or less, so studies like this demonstrate just how beneficial chiropractic can be when it comes to decreasing shoulder pain and improving quality of life.

Chiropractic Superior for Sciatica Than Surgery

Mr. Kenney works with many sciatica patients here in our Tenino office, and many of these individuals were afraid that they might require surgery to relieve their pain. The latest research indicates that many people don't require surgery for this common issue, and that chiropractic is more successful at solving sciatic nerve pain.

A common surgery for sciatica is microdiscectomy, and in a 2010 study, physicians examined 80 women and men with sciatica who were referred for this operation.

Forty patients were then randomly sorted into one of two groups. The first group was to receive surgical microdiscectomy and the second group received chiropractic care.

Both groups got better; however, no obvious difference in results was recorded one year post-treatment between the surgery group and the chiropractic group. Furthermore, roughly sixty percent of the participating patients who could not find assistance from any other treatment approach "benefited from spinal manipulation to the same degree as if they underwent surgical intervention."

In other words, chiropractic provided the same positive advantages as surgery without needing to go through the greater amounts of surgery-based pain or suffer through lengthy recovery times often associated with that specific treatment option. Plus, you also don't run the risks affiliated with surgical microdiscectomy, including nerve root damage, bowel or bladder incontinence, bleeding, or infection.

Surgery should be the last option for sciatica pain. If you live in Tenino and you're suffering from back pain or sciatica, give Mr. Kenney a call today at (360) 866-3731. We'll help determine the origin of your pain and work hard to get you relief.

Tenino Back Pain and Pregnancy Care

Tenino chiropractor

While many women automatically assume that pregnancy and back pain go hand in hand, they are often surprised when they discover that this is not necessarily the case. In fact, chiropractic adjustments can often help relieve persistant back pain for pregnant women by as much as 85 percent.

Research Supports Chiropractic Helps With Back Pain and Pregnancy

Mr. Kenney has helped many pregnant women with back pain in our Tenino office.

A research study published in Chiropractic & Manual Therapies involved 115 women who were pregnant (most of which were in their third trimester) and reported pain in their lower back region, pelvic area, or both. Data was gathered prior to the study, as well as one week, one month, three months, and one year after treatment commenced. At each subsequent point in time, the participants were asked to rate their level of pain based on a 7-point scale to determine whether it was better, worse, or stayed the same. The results?

More than half reported that their pain was better after one week of chiropractic treatment. After one month, that amount jumped up to 70 percent, climbing even more to 85 percent showing improvement at the three month mark. Positive effects were still reported at six months post-treatment, which was generally after delivery, and continued to the final data collection one year after treatment commenced.

There are also many additional advantages of chiropractic care during pregnancy. Not only does it effectively ease back pain, but it does it in a completely natural and non-invasive way. This means that you don't have to worry about taking any drugs or undergoing any type of treatment that could potentially harm your unborn child.

Chiropractic: Great for Neck Pain Recovery

Tenino chiropractic neck pain treatmentAccording to The American Academy of Pain Medicine, more people in the US suffer with chronic pain than diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke, and cancer combined. What's more, neck pain is the third most reported type of pain, beat out only by back problems and headaches.

Not surprisingly, many people come to our Tenino office looking for neck pain treatment, and Mr. Kenney has helped many of them find relief. This is a smart decision, as some studies have shown that over 90% of neck pain patients benefit from chiropractic.

Studies Confirm Chiropractic's Positive Effects

A report published in The Journal of Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy involved 64 men and women who were suffering with neck pain. Around half were placed in an experimental group and the other half were assigned to a comparison group. Both received chiropractic adjustments of the neck as well as a home exercise plan, while the experimental group also received adjustments of the thoracic spine.

Information was gathered before treatment began and one week after the adjustments. The authors found that 94 percent of the experimental group reported "significantly greater improvements" in regard to pain and disability in their neck symptoms. Just 35% of the individuals who received neck adjustments showed the same level of improvement, showing that evaluating the entire spinal column is an important part of restoring the body's normal function.

Another study posted in Physical Therapy involved 60 participants between the ages of 18 and 60 who were dealing with neck pain. Each individual was randomly assigned to one of two groups--thoracic spine thrust manipulation or non-thrust manipulation--with examinations occurring two and four days after the treatments.

The investigators discovered that the study patients who received the thrust manipulations (the same manipulations that offered such positive results in the first study) "experienced greater reductions in disability" than the group that received the non-thrust adjustments. Their pain was lower as well, which shows that this type of approach offers many benefits.

Help After Failed Neck Surgery

Another study found the same sort of positive results after thoracic adjustments in a patient who had a failed neck surgical procedure. This particular case involved a 46-year-old patient who had recently had neck surgery but still endured neck pain, headaches, pain in her elbow, and muscle fatigue.

The patient documented decreased pain in her neck and lower headache intensity, right after the first chiropractic treatment session. After six weeks of care, which involved chiropractic, exercise, and patient education, the patient still placed her pain at a zero on a scale of 1 to 10. Her neck disability reduced as well, with a rating score that represented that it was a "great deal better."

It is studies like these that prove the effectiveness of chiropractic techniques, even if you've already attempted neck surgery that didn't provide relief. So, if you are dealing with neck discomfort and would like to find a solution that has a high success rate, try chiropractic. It may just be the relief you're looking for.

Migraines Helped by Chiropractic

Tenino natural migraine treatment by Mr. KenneyWith the Migraine Research Foundation reporting that migraines affect 38 million adults and children in the United States (more than asthma and diabetes put together), it's not surprising that Mr. Kenney sees a lot of migraine patients in our Tenino office. Although some folks choose to relieve migraine pain with medications, chiropractic care is a fantastic, all-natural choice that usually produces positive results.

Research Proves Chiropractic Care Helps With Migraines

For example, one report published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics involved 127 people ranging in age from 10 to 70-years-old who struggled with frequent (at least monthly) migraines. Each subject engaged in up to 16 chiropractic sessions. The subjects noted that their headache frequency, duration, and disability two months before the study began, during the duration of the sessions (which was two months), and two months post-treatment.

What the researchers discovered is that chiropractic reduced the frequency, duration, and disability of the migraine headaches when compared with the control patients who didn't receive chiropractic. Even better, this allowed them to take less medication for the pain, offering them an all-natural answer for a chronic condition.

Another paper found that a combination of chiropractic and neck massage reduced migraine headaches almost 68%.

If you have migraine headache pain and are looking for relief, call Mr. Kenney today and request an appointment in our Tenino chiropractic office. We'll do what we can to help you become pain-free!

Benefits of Massage Therapy

Tenino Massage therapyTherapeutic massage has been used for many thousands of years as a natural pain relief solution. We use massage therapy in our Tenino office, as it works great in conjunction with the chiropractic care that Mr. Kenney provides. Massage does much more than just feel great. It also offers many positive effects as well. Some are physical and others are psychological, and here are medically documented benefits:

  • Pain relief (back, neck, shoulder, legs, arm, and headache pain)
  • Increased range of motion and mobility
  • Improved circulation
  • Improved immune system function
  • Enhanced sports performance
  • Reduced depression and anxiety
  • Higher levels of energy
  • Lower levels of fatigue
  • Easier time getting and staying asleep
  • Easier labor and delivery for expecting mothers
  • Fewer stretch marks
  • Less scar tissue

Advantages like these have been seen to be particularly helpful for individuals who suffer with chronic conditions such as arthritis and asthma. Massage has also proven advantageous for burn injury patients, people with higher than healthy blood pressure, and women who suffer from premenstrual syndrome. Even preterm infants have shown benefits with massage therapy as they have better levels of weight gain.

Knee Pain Treatment with Chiropractic

Tenino natural knee knee pain treatmentKnee pain is a frequent problem for patients in our Tenino chiropractic practice, and Mr. Kenney has successfully provided many of these men and women relief. This is largely because chiropractic care has been found to help with many types of knee pain.

For instance, some people experience pain in and around the knee area due to degenerative arthritis. Research has confirmed that this condition responds very well to chiropractic--and rather quickly, too. In fact, one study published in The Journal of the Canadian Chiropractic Association found that people with osteoarthritis in their knees felt considerable pain relief and enhanced function after just two weeks of chiropractic care.

If your knee pain is due to a medial meniscus tear, chiropractic could likely help with that as well. One study reported that combining chiropractic with soft tissue therapy, rest, ice, and compression on the affected knee helped lower the intensity of the pain.

Of course, sometimes a knee replacement surgery is necessary in order to repair the issue, and if that's the case, chiropractic can also help improve the outcome. How?

Research Proves Chiropractic Helps With Knee Pain

Research has found that patients with low back pain often have less positive outcomes after knee surgery. So, dealing with your back pain through chiropractic before having a total knee arthroplasty can help with your post-surgery healing.

No matter what your knee issue, Mr. Kenney can likely help. Call our Tenino office today and find out what we can do for you!
